The Enterprise Operations Challenge

Large and growing organisations reach a point where the systems that served them well at smaller scale become a barrier to further growth. Financial consolidation across multiple legal entities is painful and error-prone. Procurement and inventory processes are disconnected from finance. Manufacturing execution and supply chain operations lack real-time visibility. Regulatory compliance across multiple countries requires significant manual overhead. And the reporting that leadership needs to make strategic decisions is always a week out of date.

Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations — Microsoft’s enterprise-grade ERP platform — is purpose-built for organisations that have outgrown mid-market ERP solutions and need a platform that can handle genuine operational complexity: multiple legal entities, multi-currency and multi-language operations, advanced manufacturing processes, global supply chains, and the regulatory requirements of international business.

Advanced Financial Management

Dynamics 365 Finance delivers a comprehensive, global financial management capability that goes far beyond what mid-market ERP can provide. The general ledger supports unlimited dimensions — allowing you to slice financial data by business unit, cost centre, project, geography, or any other attribute that matters to your organisation. Multi-entity operations are managed natively, with automated intercompany transactions, consolidation, and elimination running across as many legal entities as your structure requires.

Intelligent automation handles the routine — bank reconciliation, payment processing, dunning, fixed asset depreciation, and revenue recognition run automatically against configurable rules. AI-powered cash flow forecasting gives your treasury team a real-time view of liquidity across the entire group, and the Copilot assistant helps finance teams analyse variances, draft commentary, and surface anomalies that would otherwise take days to find.

  • Multi-entity general ledger with unlimited financial dimensions
  • Automated intercompany transactions, consolidation, and elimination
  • AI-powered cash flow forecasting and treasury management
  • Automated bank reconciliation, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
  • Revenue recognition compliant with IFRS 15 and ASC 606
  • Global tax engine supporting VAT, GST, withholding tax, and local requirements

Manufacturing & Operations Execution

Engineers on a factory floor reviewing operationsFor manufacturing organisations, Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations provides a fully integrated production management capability covering discrete, process, and lean manufacturing models. Bills of materials, routings, production orders, capacity planning, and shop floor execution are all managed within the same system as procurement, inventory, and finance — eliminating the data silos that typically cause variance between what production reports and what finance sees.

Master Planning runs MRP and MPS calculations across the entire supply chain, generating planned orders for production and purchase based on demand signals, lead times, safety stock policies, and resource constraints. The Manufacturing Execution System (MES) integration connects the production floor directly to the ERP, capturing actual times, quantities, and material consumption in real time.

Production management

  • Discrete, process, and lean manufacturing execution in a single platform
  • Bills of materials, routings, and production scheduling
  • Real-time shop floor data capture via MES integration
  • Capacity planning and resource scheduling across work centres

Planning and procurement

  • MRP and MPS across the full supply chain
  • Automated purchase order generation from planned orders
  • Vendor collaboration portal for PO confirmation and invoice submission
  • Three-way matching for invoice processing and approval

Global Compliance, Reporting & Analytics

Finance professional reviewing global reportingOperating across multiple jurisdictions requires more than a global chart of accounts. Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations includes country-specific localisation for tax filing, statutory reporting, electronic invoicing, and payment formats in over 180 countries — updated continuously as regulations change, without requiring custom development work from your IT team.

Financial reporting is delivered through the Financial Reporter module, which supports multi-currency reporting, management accounts, consolidated group reporting, and regulatory submissions. Power BI integration extends analytics to every level of the organisation, with pre-built dashboards for CFOs, operational managers, and board reporting that draw directly from live ERP data — eliminating the spreadsheet extract cycle that delays most management reporting processes.

  • Country-specific localisation for tax, statutory reporting, and e-invoicing in 180+ countries
  • Multi-currency and multi-language operations across all legal entities
  • Financial Reporter for management accounts and consolidated group reporting
  • Power BI integration for real-time executive and board dashboards
  • Electronic audit trail and full regulatory compliance documentation

Project Accounting & Cost Management

Project team reviewing financial dataFor organisations that deliver projects — whether capital projects, professional services engagements, or government contracts — Dynamics 365 Finance provides integrated project accounting that connects the full project lifecycle to the general ledger. Project costs, revenue recognition, billing milestones, and WIP are all managed in real time, with every transaction posting directly to the appropriate cost and revenue lines in the financial accounts.

Cost management capabilities give operations leaders visibility of actual versus standard costs across production, procurement, and inventory — with variance analysis, overhead allocation, and costing version comparison all available without leaving the ERP. This level of cost insight, connected directly to the financial accounts, is typically only available in enterprise finance systems and is one of the most significant capabilities that Dynamics 365 Finance delivers over mid-market alternatives.

  • Project accounting connecting project costs and revenue directly to the general ledger
  • Billing milestone management, WIP tracking, and revenue recognition
  • Actual vs standard cost analysis with variance reporting
  • Overhead allocation and costing version management
  • Intercompany project billing across legal entities

Frequently Asked Questions

Both are Microsoft ERP platforms, but they serve different scales and levels of operational complexity. Business Central is a mid-market ERP designed for companies up to around 500 employees, offering strong financial management, basic manufacturing, and supply chain capabilities. Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations is an enterprise-grade platform designed for large, complex organisations — particularly those with multiple legal entities, sophisticated manufacturing processes, global regulatory requirements, or high transaction volumes. Finsys Apps implements both and will recommend the right platform for your specific situation.
Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations is available as a cloud (SaaS) deployment on Microsoft Azure, as well as a cloud-hosted option where the software runs in Azure but is managed more like an on-premise installation. A full on-premise deployment option exists but is not recommended for new implementations given the significant advantages of the cloud version — continuous updates, built-in disaster recovery, and lower infrastructure overhead. Microsoft has signalled that cloud is the long-term strategic direction for the platform.
Enterprise ERP implementations are typically measured in months rather than weeks. A focused Finance module implementation for a single-entity organisation might be completed in 4 to 6 months. Full multi-entity Finance & Operations programmes covering finance, supply chain, and manufacturing typically run between 9 and 18 months depending on scope and complexity. Finsys Apps uses a phased approach where possible, delivering value earlier and managing risk more effectively than a single big-bang go-live.
Microsoft offers these as two separately licensed applications that are deeply integrated at the platform level. Dynamics 365 Finance covers the financial management, accounting, and project accounting capabilities. Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management covers procurement, inventory, warehousing, manufacturing, and logistics. Most enterprise organisations licence both together, as the value comes from the seamless flow of data between financial and operational processes. They can also be licensed individually where only one set of capabilities is required.
Yes. The platform provides a comprehensive API layer, a pre-built connector library, and native integration with the broader Microsoft ecosystem including Azure Integration Services, Power Platform, and Microsoft 365. Common integrations include third-party WMS systems, manufacturing execution systems, banking platforms, HR systems, and e-commerce platforms. Finsys Apps has extensive integration experience and will assess the most practical approach for your specific technology landscape during the scoping phase.
